Magazines are a cool gift idea because it's a gift that gives all year round. The one drawback to giving a magazine subscription as a gift is that they are probably not going to receive their first issue in time and it's not something they can open. What I usually do is go to a store and buy the current copy of whatever magazine it is and wrap that.
